Resimix’s contribution to the MOSE project to protect Venice from the sea

In the unique and delicate context of the Venice Lagoon, RESIMIX played an important role in the MOSE project, a collaboration commissioned by the NEW VENICE CONSORTIUM.

Our efforts focused on consolidation injections and seepage blockage in concrete structures, thus contributing to the construction of the mobile bulkheads, which are essential to defend the city from the tides.

The MOSE project: saving Venice from the tides.

The MOSE is an ambitious project consisting of four barriers, each consisting of 78 independent mobile gates. These floodgates are designed to temporarily separate the lagoon from the sea and protect Venice from sea events, such as tides or sea level rise caused by adverse weather events.

The barriers are placed at the openings in the coastal cordon through which the sea enters the lagoon, with two at Lido, one at Malamocco and one at Chioggia.

Under normal conditions, inactive floodgates remain full of water, completely invisible in their housings. However, when high tides are expected, compressed air is injected into the gates, emptying them of water. As the water exits, the gates rotate around the axis of the hinges, rising to block the flow of the sea entering the lagoon. Once the tide goes out, the sluice gates are refilled and return to their housings without interfering with the exchange of water between sea and lagoon.

RESIMIX successfully employed two of its key products, REPIKIT EP 310 and RESICOL 100, in this unique project.

REPIKIT EP 310, for low-viscosity structural consolidation.

REPIKIT EP 310 is a low-viscosity epoxy system designed for structural consolidation injections and bonding of cracks and fissures up to 1 millimeter wide.

Its internal mixing, with resin and hardener predosed in a cartridge, offers high mechanical properties.

Its low viscosity allows easy application even in the tightest cracks, ensuring an effective adhesive.

Convenience of use with hand or air gun up to 15 atm ensures safe and hygienic work.

This product stands out for its ability to cope with various challenges.

  • Structural welding: REPIKIT EP 310 is the ideal choice for structural concrete welding of beams, columns and civil engineering works.
  • Consolidation of injured masonry: is effective in consolidating injured masonry, whether solid brick or stone or stone. In case of lesions on porous materials, the product can be used after plugging the voids with fluid cement mortar.
  • Fixing connectors: REPIKIT EP 310 finds use in fixing steel and fiberglass connectors on concrete and wood. It is particularly useful in comb seaming of structural cracks, ensuring a strong anchorage.
  • Bonding of different elements: the product can be used for bonding steel, concrete and wooden elements, connectors for collaborating slabs with wooden beams, sills, steps and unglued cementitious screeds.

RESICOL 100: pourable mortar for vertical and horizontal applications.

RESICOL 100 is an epoxy resin-based thixotropic adhesive paste ideal for vertical and horizontal applications. Due to its high thixotropy, it can be applied vertically up to thicknesses of 3 millimeters without dripping.

Its mechanical properties of compressive and flexural strength, combined with excellent adhesion to various building materials, make this product the perfect choice. Resistant to static and dynamic stresses, RESICOL 100 also offers excellent chemical properties, electrical insulation and fast curing.

Both products, RESICOL 100 and REPIKIT EP 310, are ready-to-use, ensuring easy application and reliable results.
